Affectionately nicknamed ‘The EVH’ by our locals, we are proudly ‘pokie free’, dog friendly, and the only remaining hotel in East Balmain. Super conveniently located, only 100m from the East Balmain Ferry (or 2 minute's walk), we are also only one ferry ride from Barangaroo!
Originally constructed as the Commercial Hotel in 1875 by Mr Frederick Leach we were one of eight pubs originally servicing the East Balmain peninsula. Beginning life as a pub, greengrocer, and bakery, The EVH survived the tough times for pubs from the 1890’s to 1920’s when many pubs in the Inner West closed due to reduced trading hours and stringent licensing requirements. In the 1930’s, Toohey’s took over the lease and ultimately freehold of The Commercial Hotel. And after over 130 years trading as The Commercial Hotel our pub was reopened briefly as The Belgian Beer Cafe in 2008.
In 2011 the venue was renovated and renamed The East Village Hotel and we continue to proudly honour our historically significant past and just like Mr Leach and all the publicans after him we work hard on the daily to ‘Do Local Great’.
AUTUMN MENU
Our kitchen, led by Michelin-trained Head Chef Tristan Bertet, offers an elevated pub dining experience. Enjoy fresh and delicious autumn dishes with a French flair, all served alongside pub classics such as our Fish & Chips and Chicken Parmy.
Our menu is carefully created using quality, fresh and seasonal produce all prepared in-house by our experienced & qualified chefs.

Our bar has 13 taps featuring a changing list of craft beers and mainstream faithfuls. Boutique brews and seasonal cocktails are served with a smile by our awesome bar team. We also offer a carefully developed wine list including some of Australia’s most exciting boutique winemakers and well known vino crowd pleasers, provide at a range of price points.

The East Village Hotel features a well stocked Bottleshop, so if you are in the area and looking for a special bottle of wine or a few cold beers to take to your favourite BYO restaurant, pop in and see us.
